I write novels that treat myth as an argument rather than a setting.
My debut, Psyche, goes back to the oldest surviving version of Cupid and Psyche — Apuleius's second-century Latin — and takes seriously what most retellings have quietly dropped: that it is a satire, and that the "great love story" is the version the gods would have wanted told. The novel is about coercion, narrative control, and the cost of the stories we inherit. It is not a romance.
I hold a BA in Religious Studies and Anthropology from the University of Virginia and an MEd from William & Mary, and I spent years teaching middle-school theatre and language arts. I live in Richmond, Virginia, with my husband, three kids, and cats.
